March has already seen the release of Late Nite Tuff Guy’s anticipated debut release on his own imprint; Tuff Cut. No sooner than it was released the ‘Tuff Cut 01’ hand-stamped Vinyl 12″ sold out in record time. Fortunately it is now back in stock – you can get your copy here
The release opens with ‘Bless The Rains’, a valiant edit of the Balearic classic, Toto’s ‘Africa’ a smooth, evolving, chuggy workout, featuring slo-mo disco drums, cosseting pads and bubbling synth melodies that softly flutter away in the depths on the background. ‘My Body’s On Fire’ follows, reworking Janet Jackson into
a sensual, dropped-tempo house record, employing loose, organic percussion, flourishing pads and subtle touches such as dubbed-out delays and filter sweeps to create a blossoming, progressive dynamic.
To close the release we have, ‘Not In Love Anymore’, yet another blinding interpretation of Michael McDonald’s ‘I Keep Forgetting’, taking the timeless clav-licks and catchy vocal hooks and layering them up with natural drums while chopping the structure up to make his own progression, again resulting in a sundrenched
track perfect for the afterhours.
