Just had a listen to Toby’s monthly Nu Disco show on Ministry and I must say a most enjoyable hour. He always seems to get through a fair few new tracks and have time to chat about where he got them, interview an artist or invite guests into the studio to co-host. Interesting tracks on the show this time out 40 Thieves, Belgian nu beat via Berlin and some great mid tempo cuts with a couple of Mudd remixes in there for good measure. Listen Here
Well worth taking a listen as there are some cracking records and interesting releases in there, a few I intend on tracking down from the show.
Toby has a number of productions lined up and due for release over the autumn, just listened to an excellent package due out shortly on More Music as their 10th release. He’s in good company with the likes of Midland, Timo Maas & Mowgli all providing recent releases for the electronic music label.
Toby Tobias – Tomorrow’s Bringing is essentially a vocal track or song reminiscent of 80’s soul with some big modern bass and delicate percussion in the mix. As well as straight up Radio, Club & Dub mixes Toby really shines on the ‘Narrow Road remix’ which strips the track right back to it’s bare essentials. Really hitting the spot for us, I expect big plays for this on many a dance floor, atmospheric and emotive intro with a vocal manipulated to great effect whilst headed towards a huge bass drop and subtle yet driving beat. Feels lovely and sounds very US for a UK production.
Lee Foss, Bicep and Zoo Look are on remix duty bringing their own slant to the table. Biceps NY mix stands out as the most unusual and bassy of the three, to be honest Lee Foss doesn’t do much for me right now, seems a bit formulaic and loopy for my liking but it will no doubt float dance floor boats. Zoo Look deliver a smooth remix and dub to complete the package in style. Keep an eye open for this one as it will drop soon on Vinyl.
We have some availability for Toby Tobias in Oct/Nov/Dec and NYE so get in touch for details.
